I don’t know about you, but I feel like this year has flown by. I can’t believe we’re already approaching the holidays!
I enjoy November. Fall’s in full swing, and the trees become spectacularly fiery as they prepare for winter, and there’s always this extra sense of gratitude in the air as folks begin thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas.
As I was reflecting on life and thinking about the things for which I’m grateful, I thought about the basics: the fact that I have a safe, warm home, clean running water, electricity, food…. I also couldn’t help but think about all the people who are still suffering in the aftermath of all these recent natural disasters — people who are desperate for those very basic provisions.
A few weeks ago, the news and various social media outlets were all over these stories (as they should have been). But as the weeks have passed and new catastrophes and current events have taken center stage, the victims of Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria have become yesterday’s headlines. Unfortunately, this isn’t unusual. There’s always something new to report, and people have a tendency to lose interest when certain causes/subjects stay in the spotlight for too long. Media outlets know this. So they move on.
But as I was pondering all this, I had to ask myself: what can I do? Is there something I can do to help?
As an artist, I have a unique opportunity to use my platform to make this world a better place. It’s always been my desire to use my music for good.
I’m therefore pleased to announce that I will be using my next show to raise funds for the GlobalGiving Foundation, a non-profit that is currently providing on-ground relief efforts to hurricane victims, including those in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, who were impacted by Hurricane Maria. The show is FREE, but I’m asking that folks come prepared to give a little something (however much you feel inclined to give) to help those in need.
Thank you for partnering with me! I’ll see you at the show!
