Hi, friends! Jess Pillay here. Most people who know me know that music is my obsession, my greatest passion, and the way that I show up in the world. It’s the medium I use to try to bring hope and healing to the world around me, and my dream is to make it my full-time career someday. For the past five years, I’ve been working tirelessly to establish myself as an independent artist, musician, and songwriter. Many of you have supported me in that endeavor by coming to my past gigs, streaming, purchasing, or sharing my music online, and following me on social media. I am so incredibly thankful to every single one of you for that support! It truly means the world to me.
I’d like to invite you to partner with me once again as I dive into my biggest musical adventure yet: the making and release of my debut EP!
To be honest, this is not a project I expected to do anytime soon. People have been asking me to record an album for years, but I didn’t think I had the financial means nor the personal bandwidth for it. But one of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned in the past two years is that we have to take chances in life. You just don’t know what tomorrow holds or how our lives will change at any given moment.
So...I’m choosing to live in the present, to have a little faith, and am jumping in with both feet. It’s scary and challenging and wonderful and joy-inducing all at once!
As an independent artist with a small following, I don’t have the support and resources of a record label. And with most streaming platforms paying artists literally a fraction of a penny per stream, it's impossible to recoup production costs through streaming revenue. Sounds bleak, right? But there's hope! I may not have the financial backing of a record label or much coming in through streaming, but I have you: my friends, family, and fans. So I'm asking you to help me fund this project: to be my record label, so to speak. :)
